QCR7 is a business intelligence reporting tool for Windows software. The tool is simple to use, putting the business user in total control of visualisation, allowing them to consolidate, search, visualize, and analyze all of their data for an business insight.

For such an advanced tool, QCR7 needed a new Windows app icon to reflect the focus of the software, which is specifically time and task management. Our design team created a number of concepts based on the key metaphors the client provided. Working through a range of ideas and inspirations, sifting out each one until they came to something that fitted with the overall style and function of the tool.

The preferred concept was developed through a number of revisions, finally arriving with a design which was rendered in the required sizes (16×16, 32×32, 48×48 & 256×256 pixels) and converted to ICO format to complete the Windows app icon design process. As you can see in the examples below, two separate abstract designs were created, for example the first being inspired by control and time, which were then blended together to create a minimalist yet visually compelling icon.
