Custom UI Icons for ESP’s Elite Software
How we helped ESP update their Elite software interface with a clean, colourful set of custom UI icons and modern design concepts, enhancing usability and consistency for clients across the leisure industry.

Consistency Across a Diverse UI
ESP provides software for over 200 clients in the leisure industry, including golf clubs, sailing organisations, holiday parks and private member clubs. Their flagship product, Elite, combines a Unix-based backend with a Windows client interface. Over time, the system’s iconography had become inconsistent, with icons designed by different teams and styles overlapping.
Our brief was to unify the UI using a fresh set of colourful, scalable custom UI icons. Starting with 20 of the most visible desktop icons, we helped lay a visual foundation for broader UI improvements across the entire application.

From Concept to Consistency
We began with style exploration, testing different levels of detail, outline treatment and colour vibrancy. Once a direction was chosen, we rolled out a consistent set of custom UI icons across all 20 navigation points, along with supporting UI design concept screens to visualise the changes in use.
These icons were delivered as SVGs to ensure they scaled cleanly across different resolutions, reduced file size, and allowed flexible styling in the future. The overall result was a sharper, more unified interface aligned with modern usability expectations, whilst still retaining some familiarity with the legacy ui.

Improving UI Clarity with Custom Icons
With Elite used across a wide variety of devices and screen sizes, visual clarity was critical. The new custom UI icons were optimised to work clearly at multiple sizes, upate the design to a modern consistent style and introduce a unified colour palette.
This improved both new user onboarding and long-term navigation speed, reducing training costs and visual fatigue across platforms and devices.
Project Outcomes
In addition to the icon set, we created sample UI screens to showcase how the updated look would flow across Elite’s interface. These helped guide implementation and gave the ESP team a clear vision for expanding the new style to other parts of the product.
While modest in scope, this project demonstrates how a focused set of custom UI icons can dramatically lift the perceived quality of software, especially legacy systems where visual consistency has eroded over time.
The updated visuals bring clarity, consistency and a modern aesthetic, benefits that extend well beyond surface design. They help position ESP Elite as a professional, forward-looking product that users can navigate with confidence.
